Dose Edge allows for an “auto document” of waste for single dose vial biologics. This triggers a charge to a bill with a JW modifier so that we can now charge for a whole vial.
In the old days this waste had to be manually documented on the order by the pharmacist who is preparing the drug.
Would you consider this automatic calculation that triggers this charge, to be sufficient “waste documentation” in the medical record?
I would think that there still needs to be some manual documentation, but my pharmacy is under the impression that this automatic calculation is sufficient.
I’d like to know your thoughts.
Thanks!
