Epic Pharmacist Job Week One – is now over and it was a whirlwind… If you’ve been following my (previously) daily journey of this new position you probably noticed that I went down from posting daily to not…
After Day Two on the new job I quickly realized that my daily blogging about it was not going to be quite as feasible as I had desired it would be… At least, not in the very beginning.
I jumped right in with both feet and there’s a lot to wade through. I don’t doubt though that as the fog of newness begins to lift I should be able to get back to my daily posts.
Unrelated Side Note
I just listened to a podcast about blogging where the host said that for blog posts to rank high in search engines (Google to be specific), they had to have a minimum of 2,500 words… Say what…? Personally, I think I have a daily allotment of roughly 10-20K words (and that includes the words I expend at work).
Sorry folks, I don’t think I can write that many words about what I do at work… Plus, I don’t think that readers of pharmacist blogs really care to read multiple posts in excess of 2,500… you guys have lives!
I doubt I’ll ever write a post that long so you can breathe easy 🙂
New Epic Pharmacist Job Week One in Review
Bottom line: As of today, I strongly feel that I will really like this type of work. It will involve building the infrastructure for the new Epic software system that is being implemented.
So far, I am learning about the user interface and what the end users will see and interact with. Next, I will learn how to actually create what the end user sees (from the back end). Sounds simple enough.
I’m looking forward to going out to Wisconsin to do the classroom training portion. Not only because I’ve never been to Wisconsin but also I recently heard that the Epic HQ campus is quite the sight to behold so that’s pretty exciting.
I just sent up a mailing sign up so if you’d like to keep up with all the new happenings over here at TPL HQ please feel free to sign up. I don’t intend to bombard you with lots of emails but it’s a nice way for me to stay in touch with you if you’re interested.
You can also just subscribe to the RSS feed for the blog and get notified when I add a new post.
Aside from the blog, there’s going to be lots more information about being a pharmacist, hunting for pharmacist jobs, etc. all based on my extensive pharmacist job-hunting experience (in addition to solid references) that are’t me 😉
Week Two on the new job begins tomorrow. I’ll try to post every other day at least.
What I’m currently excited about: Getting to go onsite this week to watch some folks getting trained on the new Epic system they’ll be using. Oh yeah… and getting to binge watch the Amazon original series “The Man in the High Castle” – I recently discovered this show and now I’m hooked. Plus, it’s a good way to relax after change mental gears after work.
